Misra was admitted to the hospital following a brain stroke and he also tested positive for dengue, a few days back. His platelet count dropped and he breathed his last around 7.24 am, his brother, also a former DGP, Bipin Chandra Mishra told the media.

A 1959-IPS officer, Mishra served as Odisha DGP in 1991-92. He was also posted with the Research and Analysis Wing (R & AW), and worked in Dhaka and Washington. After retirement from service, he devoted his time to the DAV movement and writing. He won Odisha Sahitya Akademi award for his autobiography in 2007. “He was the first IPS officer and DGP from Talcher,” he said.

Mishra is survived by a son and a daughter. “His last rites will be conducted at Swargadwar in Puri,” his brother added.
