Bhubaneswar: Ramesh Chandra Barad, former Revenue Inspector of Karlamunda and Narla Tehsils in Kalahandi district, has been dismissed from government service after he was convicted and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a bribery case.
Barad was convicted by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna on January 31, 2025, and also fined Rs. 20,000 for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant to demarcate their land. The Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Barad in April 2021 under the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Following his conviction, the competent authority dismissed Barad from government service with effect from February 18, 2025, under the provisions of the OCS (CCA) Rules, 1962, a Vigilance press release said on Wednesday.
Following conviction of Barad, Odisha Vigilance had communicated in this regard to the competent authority to take appropriate action against him. Accordingly, Barad was dismissed from government service by the competent authority for bribery, it added
