London: Former squash champion Azam Khan succumbed to coronavirus at a London hospital on Saturday. He was 95.

Azam Khan was regarded as one of the best squash players in the world. He had won the British Open four times between 1959 and 1962.

He was initially a tennis player, but switched to squash at the age of 26 on the insistence of his elder brother, the legendary Hashim Khan.

He was initially a tennis player, but switched to squash at the age of 26 on the insistence of his brother.

Azam Khan was born at Nawakille, a village outside Peshawar, and worked with Pakistan Air Force as a tennis coach. He later settled in UK in 1956.

He left the professional squash circuit after losing his 14-year-old son in 1962. He later set up a squash club and coached many players.
