Bhubaneswar: A special Vigilance court in Odisha’s Balangir convicted a former Tehsildar-cum-Sub-Registrar and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for three years in a bribery case.
The judge of the designated court pronounced the order in the case slapped by Odisha Vigilance against Subrat Kumar Behera, former Tehsildar-cum-Sub-Registrar of Tarva in Sonepur.
The court also ordered Behera to pay a fine of Rs. 30,000. Behera was found guilty of demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 from a complainant for registering a sale deed in November 2020, a Vigilance release said.
The Odisha Vigilance had charge-sheeted Behera in 2020 under the PC (Amendment) Act, 2018. Following his conviction, the Vigilance will move for Behera’s dismissal from service as Tehsildar of Kodinga in Nabarangpur.
