Bhubaneswar: After brief gap, four wild elephants have sneaked into Sikharchandi hill in Odisha’s capital Bhubaneswar. The animals were sighted on Friday morning.
Notably, around a week ago, an elephant had reached the hill and got stuck there for hours while a fire broke out in the area and kept on spreading. Later, forest officials had managed to drive away the animal and push it into the forest.
Sources said, a herd of four elephants is moving on Sikharchandi hill, triggering panic in the area. On being informed, forest official have rushed to the spot and keeping close watch on them. The jumbos are stated to have strayed into the area from the nearby Bharatpur forest.
Chandaka DFO Mohammed Jamil said, “Since Thursday night, four elephants have come out of Bharatpur forest and entered Sikharchandi hill. Forest guards and officials are tracking their movement in the area.”
However, some forest officials assured that people need not worry about the animals as measures are being taken to drive out of the area by evening.
