Keonjhar: Four persons, including three women, were killed and three others seriously injured, when a speeding car in which they were travelling rammed into a roadside tree near Anandpur in Odisha’s Keonjhar district in the early hours of Saturday.
Sources said family members of Baikuntha Panda of Salabani area of Anandpur block had gone to Thakurmunda to attend a wedding on Friday night. The accident took place while they were on the way to their native place and the driver lost control over the vehicle near Bankhidi Chhak on Karanjia-Anandpur road.
While two persons died on the spot, five others sustained serious injuries. Soon after the incident, locals and the police rushed to the spot and brought out the dead and injured passengers from the car.
Of the five injured, two succumbed to their injuries at Anandpur Sub-Divisional Hospital while the three others were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack, where their condition is stated to be critical.
The deceased have been identified as China Panda, Manorama Tripathy, Baikuntha Panda and Laxmipriya Panda.
Circumstantial evidence suggests that the driver might have dozed off and in the process lost control of the vehicle, police said.
