Four Migrant Workers Flee Quarantine Centre In Odisha’s Sundargarh
Rourkela: Tension erupted at Gurundia block in Sundargarh district in the wee hours of Monday after four migrant returnees escaped from an institutional quarantine centre at Sola school.
The four migrants have been identified as residents of Nuapali and Ulundajharana villages under Sola panchayat.
According to sources, two among them had returned from Kerala and the other two from Maharashtra. Alleging lack of basic facilities and poor quality of food being provided at the quarantine centre, the inmates had earlier lodged a complaint with the local sarpanch, but to no avail.
Following which, four among them decided to flee, the sources added.
Migrant labourers returning from other states are allegedly skipping safety and quarantine guidelines in various parts of Odisha. Such violations fuel fear of community transmission of the COVID-19, more so since most cases in Odisha are now being detected in the quarantine centres.
