Bhubaneswar: A cyclonic circulation has formed over Southeast & adjoining eastcentral Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Sunday.
Earlier in its extended range outlook, the national forecaster had predicted formation of a cyclonic circulation/low pressure area over north and adjoining central Bay of Bengal this week.
“IMD GFS indicates development of an upper air cyclonic circulation over eastcentral BoB around June 10 with west-northwestwards movement towards Andhra Pradesh and Odisha coast till June 14. NCUM indicates development of an upper air cyclonic circulation over eastcentral BoB around June 10 and a low pressure area over westcentral Bay of Bengal on June 12 with northwestwards movement across central India till June 14. ECMWF is indicating a low pressure area over northwest BoB off Odisha coast on June 17 with west northwestwards movement till June 19. NCEP GFS is indicating a low pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal on June 15 with west northwestwards movement and intensification into a depression over northwest Bay of Bengal off West Bengal coast on June 16 and westnorthwestwards movement along the monsoon trough across Gangetic West Bengal, Odisha and Jharkhand till June 19.”
Meanwhile in Odisha, thunderstorm accompanied by lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may continue till June 12. Yellow warning has been issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri districts on June 8 and Malkangiri, Koraput, Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar on June 9.
Thunderstorm activity may increase thereafter with warning issued for Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on June 10; and Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Dhenkanal on June 11.
Similar weather conditions may prevail at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Kandhamal, Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri on June 12.
Hot and humid weather conditions may also occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam and Gajapati districts on June 8-9, it added.
