Bhubaneswar: The intensity of rain is likely to increase in Odisha as a cyclonic circulation is expected to form over Gangetic West Bengal & neighbourhood around June 25.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in some districts on May 25-26.
Earlier in its Extended Range Outlook(Cyclogenesis), the IMD had forecast formation of an upper-air cyclonic circulation over North Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal & Bangladesh around June 26. “Under its influence, a low-pressure area is likely to form over the same region around June 27 . However, it is not likely to intensify further into a depression,” it added.

According to the midday bulletin, thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain may affect one or two places in Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts on Sunday (June 22).
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput, Malkangiri, Gajapati and Ganjam.
On June 23, thunderstorm/lightning along with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Bhadrak, Kandhamal, Rayagada and Koraput.
Heavy rain may resume on June 24 with yellow warning of thunderstorm/lightning accompanied by gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may also occur at one or two places in Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
The intensity of downpour may increase during the next 2 days.
Orange warning of thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy to very heavy rain has been issued for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Gajapati and Ganjam on June 25.
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain may also occur at one or two places in Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Kalahandi, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Kendrapada. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri.
The orange warning continues on June 26 for one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, Dhenkanal and Jajpur districts, which are likely to experience thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy to very heavy rain.
Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain may also occur at one or two places in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Sundargarh and Deogarh. Thunderstorm/lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is also likely at one or two places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Koraput and Malkangiri.
The IMD has also warned of squally weather with wind speed 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph along & off Odisha coasts from June 24 to 25, when the sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough. Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast during this period.
