Bhubaneswar: Amid allegations of illegal occupation of vacant government quarters, the authorities launched an eviction drive in Unit-II area of Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
After getting information that some people had forcibly occupied government quarters, the enforcement teams of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) and the General Administration (GA) Department carried out an eviction drive in Unit-II area of the city.
As per information, over 15 government quarters in the area have been allegedly occupied in an illegal manner.
Officials said all the illegally occupied quarters would be cleared of unauthorised occupants soon. While some of the quarters were found vacant, several others were occupied by families seeking temporary shelter.
Most of the quarters were found in a dilapidated condition, with damaged gates, grills, and surrounding boundary walls. Several premises lacked electricity connections.
Some of the occupants said they had moved into the quarters out of necessity in a temporary move as they are very poor.
Officials said the eviction drive will continue to ensure that all illegally occupied government quarters in the area are vacated.
