Bhubaneswar: With a fresh low pressure area brewing over the Bay, heavy to very heavy rain coupled with thunderstorm activity is likely to lash many parts of Odisha till July 4.
As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the upper air cyclonic circulation over southwest Bangladesh & adjoining Gangetic West Bengal persisted over the same region and extended up to 7.6 km above mean sea level.
Under its influence, a low pressure area is likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal Bangladesh and West Bengal during subsequent 48 hours. Subsequently, it is likely to move slowly west-northwestwards across Gangetic West Bengal and north Odisha and Jharkhand
The weather agency issued an orange warning and said very heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj by Sunday morning.
Similarly, yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Balasore, Sundargarh, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Bargarh, Balangir, Sambalpur, Angul, and Boudh during the period.
Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places of Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sonepur, Deogarh, Dhenkanal, and Jharsuguda districts.
On June 29-30, an orange warning of very heavy rain was issued for Mayurbhanj district, while yellow warning of heavy rain was sounded for the districts of Balasore, and Bhadrak.
Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph, heavy rainfall may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati.
On June 30-July1, an orange warning of very heavy rain was issued for the districts of Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh.
Similarly, yellow warning was issued for the districts of Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Jharsuguda.
Squally weather is likely to prevail with wind speed 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph along and off Odisha coasts during June 28 to July 1, while sea condition will be rough to very rough. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast till July 1.
