Bhubaneswar: A low-pressure area has formed over southeast Bay of Bengal & adjoining east Equatorial Indian Ocean, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Saturday.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards, become more marked during the next 24 hours. “It is very likely to continue to move west-northwestwards thereafter and reach over southwest Bay of Bengal off Sri-Lanka-Tamil Nadu coasts around December 11,” it added.
Though the system will have no direct impact on Odisha, moisture incursion could cause light rain in some parts of the state on December 8-9.
According to the weather agency, shallow to moderate fog may occur at one or two places in Nayagarh, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Bhadrak, Puri, Khurda, Ganjam, Koraput, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda and Keonjhar districts on December 7 amid the prevailing dry weather conditions.
There is a forecast for light rain at one or two places in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Gajapati, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir, Sonepur, and Boudh on December 8 and Mayurbhanj, Keonjhargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Cuttack and Khurda on December 9.
Dry weather is likely to again prevail across the state thereafter. There will also be no large change in the night temperature during the next 4-5 days, it added.

Light to moderate rainfall may occur at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal during December 10-13 with very heavy rainfall at isolated places over coastal Tamil Nadu on December 12. Light to moderate rainfall is also likely at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places in coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam on December 11-12. Light to moderate rainfall may occur at many places with heavy rainfall at isolated places in Kerala & Mahe during December 11-13.
Fishermen have advised not to venture into Southeast Bay of Bengal during December 7-11; Southwest Bay of Bengal during December 9-12; Westcentral Bay of Bengal on December 11-12.
