Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience more rains with the formation of a low pressure area over the Bay of Bengal on Friday morning.
“Under the influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation over west central & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off north Andhra Pradesh and south Odisha coast, a low pressure area has formed over the same region at 8.30 am,” the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
The system is likely to move west-northwestwards across south Odisha and adjoining north Andhra Pradesh and south Chhattisgarh during the next 2 days.
The weather agency has forecast isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall over districts of Odisha on September 12. Orange warning has been issued for Koraput and Malkangiri districts. Heavy rain may also occur in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada and Nabarangpur.
Moderate thunderstorm/lightning along with rain and wind speed 30-40 kmph may also occur at many places in Cuttack, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Khurda, Koraput, Nayagarh and Sambalpur till 4.30 pm.
It further stated that heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and wind speed 30-40 kmph may continue in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Kalahandi districts on September 13.
Squally weather with wind speed reaching 35-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph may also prevail along and off South Odisha coast and over west central & adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during September 12-13.
Since the sea condition is expected to be rough to very rough, fishermen have been advised against venturing into the sea during this period.
