Mumbai: A fresh non-bailable warrant (NBW) has been issued against absconding diamantaire Mehul Choksi in connection with a Rs 55-crore loan fraud case involving a Canara Bank-led consortium.
The NBW was issued by the Esplanade magistrate court here last week on April 25.
CBI’s Bank Securities and Fraud Branch (BSFB) had earlier sought NBW against Choksi in the Mumbai Sessions court.
The sessions court, however, transferred the case to a magistrate court as no public servant was implicated in the case even though sections of Prevention of Corruption Act were invoked.
An application was then moved by the prosecution, under section 204 b and Section 70 of the Criminal Procedure Code for issuance of an open NBW against Choksi on April 17 before the magistrate court.
Choksi and nephew Nirav Modi are also wanted by Indian authorities in the 2016 Rs 14,000-crore PNB fraud case.
Choksi, who was arrested by Belgian police on April 12, based on extradition request by Indian investigative agencies, also faces an NBW in an Enforcement Directorate case.
