Bhubaneswar: The central government has ordered the transfer of 13 Superintending Archaeologists under the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen the management of heritage sites.
One of the notable changes include superintending archaeologist of ASI (Puri circle) in Odisha D B Garnayak. He has been transferred to Kolkata and will be replaced at Puri by Milan Kumar Chauley with previous stints in Nagpur, Aurangabad, Guwahati, and Hyderabad.
Gadnayak, a senior archaeologist, has supervised key projects including excavations at sites like Ratnagiri, drilling to remove century-old sand from Jagamohan (assembly hall) of Sun Temple in Konark and the recent repair, and restoration of Ratna Bhandar (treasury) of the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri.
“The respective Regional Directors are directed to relieve officers within 15 days from the date of issue of this order. failing which the concerned officer shall be deemed to have been relieved on completion of the said period, and the drawal of his/her salary at the present place of posting shall cease,” the office order issued on April 22 said.
