The event was inaugurated by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Minister for External Affairs S Jaishankar, who lit the ceremonial lamp to mark the beginning of the cultural evening.

A Tribute to Odisha’s Glory

The dance drama “Gatha Odisha Ra” showcased the essence of Odia art, literature, tradition and history. From ancient times to modern history, including the Kalinga War, the Paika Rebellion and Odisha’s journey to statehood, the performance vividly portrayed the state’s glorious past. Artists brought to life the Jagannath culture, Odia literature and festivals through intricate movements, leaving the audience spellbound.

The program also highlighted modern Odisha’s achievements in crafts, architecture and handlooms, along with themes of women’s empowerment and their role in building the state. Promoting the message of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam”, the performance featured over 350 artists, who seamlessly integrated classical and folk dance forms.

Jaishankar described “Gatha Odisha Ra” as a spectacular representation of Odisha’s culture, heritage and traditions. The evening was graced by dignitaries, including Odisha’s Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj, Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, Rural Development Minister Rabi Narayan Naik and Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia. Members of Parliament Sangeeta Kumari Singh Deo (Balangir) and Malavika Devi (Kalahandi) and Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, were also present in the event.

The dance drama incorporated eight classical dance forms and various folk dances of Odisha, choreographed by renowned Guru Aruna Mohanty. The breathtaking choreography and innovative storytelling paid homage to Odisha’s illustrious legacy, earning widespread acclaim from the audience.
