Gauri Lankesh’s Mother & Sister Join Rahul Gandhi’s ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’

Mandya: Gauri Lankesh’s mother Indira and sister Kavitha marched with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Karnataka leg of his ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ on Friday.

Gauri was assassinated outside her home in Bengaluru’s Rajarajeshwari Nagar on September 5, 2017, when she was returning from work. Motorcycle-riding assailants fired several shots at her before fleeing.

“Gauri stood for Truth. Gauri stood for Courage. Gauri stood for Freedom. I stand for Gauri Lankesh and countless others like her, who represent the true spirit of India. Bharat Jodo Yatra is their voice. It can never be silenced,” Rahul Gandhi tweeted.

“We all know the ideology that took away Gauri Lankesh’s life. @RahulGandhi walking with Gauri Lankesh’s mother and sister tells the world that truth can never be silenced by hate and violence. #BharatJodoYatra signifies hope, ahimsa and truth,” tweeted Jairam Ramesh.

Rahul launched Congress’ 3,570-km ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from Kanyakumari a month ago, on September 8. The aim of Congress’ yatra is to combat the alleged divisive politics of BJP-headed Central government.

Rahul’s mother and Congress interim president Sonia Gandhi joined the yatra in Karnataka’s Mandya on September 6.

The 75-year-old Sonia walked with Rahul and other senior leaders like former chief minister Siddaramaiah and state unit chief DK Shivakumar for a few kilometres as party workers cheered and chanted slogans.
