Bhubaneswar: Amid steeps to boost industrial activity in southern and other parts of Odisha, Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani and Karan Adani visited Rayagada, sparking renewed optimism about the industrial future of the region.

The visit assumes significance as it comes in the midst of preparations for an ambitious Rs 1.08 lakh crore integrated aluminium project proposed by the group in Odisha.

Notably, Gautam Adani visited the IMFA (Indian Metals & Ferro Alloys Ltd) plant at Therubali in Rayagada district on Saturday by helicopter, triggering fresh discussion about the group’s upcoming investments in the region.

Sources said a meeting was held at the IMFA plant premises for about an hour. Gautam Adani, his son Karan Adani and senior district officials attended the meeting. During the visit, senior technical officials from the Adani Group assessed land availability, transport connectivity and infrastructure readiness in the area.

IMFA has informed about the meeting in a post on ‘X’.

According to sources, Adani Enterprises Ltd and UAE-based International Resources Holding (IRH) have signed an agreement to establish a greenfield integrated aluminium complex in Odisha. The proposed project will include a 4 million TPA alumina refinery, 2 MTPA aluminium smelter, 1 million  TPA downstream aluminium park, a 4,000 MW captive power plant, and a 400 MW green energy unit.

This apart, the group plans to set up a large thermal power plant and a digital data centre in the state.

Rayagada, rich in bauxite reserves, is being considered for a Rs  41,650 crore alumina refinery and power plant, which could transform the district into a major industrial hub.

During their visit, senior technical officials from Adani Group were stated to have assessed land availability, transport connectivity, and infrastructure readiness.

Experts believe the project could generate thousands of direct and indirect jobs, ushering in a new era of industrialisation and  economic growth across southern Odisha.

Observers as well as local residents expressed hope that the development will proceed with environmental balance and inclusive growth, marking a significant landmark in the industrial journey of Odisha.
