Geo-Technical Probe For Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Metro Project Begins

Bhubaneswar: The preliminary work on the proposed Bhubaneswar-Cuttack metro project has begun with geotechnical investigation by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) near Trisulia and Nandankanan Road here.

A team of engineers and experts from DMRC are examining the condition of the surface of the land and 30 feet below to ascertain the nature of the soil and rock deposits in the area. It is also examining presence of water under the land.

Sources in Odisha Rail Infrastructure Development Limited (ORIDL), which will be executing the project, said that soil testing will be carried out at multiple locations between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, where the proposed metro rail project will be taken up initially. The investigation is expected to be completed within a month on basis of which the DMRC will prepared a detailed project report (DPR).

In the first phase, the DPR for the elevated metro corridor between city airport and Trisulia in Cuttack will be prepared. A City Coordination Committee (CCC), comprising Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, BDA, Commissionerate Police, and Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation, has also been formed to look after smooth execution of the metro project.

All necessary information including the details of mobility plan as sought by the DMRC has already been shared, a senior official of CCC said.

Apart from the DPR, a master plan will also be prepared for the metro network covering other areas of Bhubaneswar, Khurda, Cuttack and Puri, the sources added.
