Girl Found Hanging In Bhubaneswar Hotel: Post-Mortem Report Confirms Suicide, Says DCP

Bhubaneswar: Putting the speculation of murder of the young girl, Subhalaxmi Sahu, to rest, police on Friday said her post-mortem report confirmed that she had committed suicide in the room of a hotel in Bhubaneswar.

Speaking to media persons, Bhubaneswar DCP Pratik Singh said the post-mortem report confirmed that Subhalaxmi’s death was caused due to suicide by hanging. Belonging to Kuabagh Sahi in Bhadrak district, she was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in the hotel on last Saturday.

“Police have not found any suspicious evidence from the hotel room. We have checked the CCTV footage from the hotel. The timeline of the incident also matches with the post-mortem report,” Singh said.

Stating that there was nothing suspicious in the CDR, the DCP said the police were questioning her family members and associates as part of the inquiry to know her mental condition.

On the viral video regarding Subhalaxmi reported in a section of media, he said the police have not found any such video. “If we get such video clip and find anything incriminating there, it will be included in the investigation,” he added.

However, mystery shrouds the Instagram profile of Subhalaxmi as all her photos have been deleted from the site after her death.

Meanwhile, the State Women’s Commission has directed the Commissionerate Police to submit a detailed report on the entire incident within 15 days.

It may be noted that a day after Subhalaxmi was found dead, her family members alleged that she was murdered and later hanged to pass it off as a case of suicide.

“She was studying at RD University in the city and had told the family that she was staying with friends in the mess. We don’t know why she went to the hotel. But how can person sitting on a bed hang self?” asked a relative.
