Malkangiri: A girl student was found hanging under mysterious circumstances in a school hostel in Odisha’s Malkangiri district on Wednesday.
As per reports, the girl, belonging to Ginipali village under Motu police station in the district, was a student of Class IX in Madhusudan High School at Motu under Kalimela block.
Belonging to scheduled tribe community, the minor girl was staying with other students in the girls’ hostel of the school. Her parents are farm workers and have limited sources of income, the sources said.
She had not gone to attend her classes in the morning. When her roommates returned to hostel after the classes were over, they found the room locked from inside. As the girl did not open the door despite repeated knocks on the door, they informed the hostel authorities.
The teachers partially opened a window and found the girl hanging from ceiling fan in the room. On being informed, a team from Motu police station went to the hostel and sent the body for post-mortem.
The police have registered a case of unnatural death and started investigation. The cause of the student’s death has not been confirmed. The police have informed her parents.
