Bhubaneswar: Voicing concern over the death of a girl under mysterious circumstances in a hotel room in Bhubaneswar, the Odisha State Commission for Women has suo motu registered a case and sought a report from the police regarding investigation in the case.
Following reports in media about the death of the Plus II girl student, the Commission has directed the Bhubaneswar Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) to submit a report on the status of investigation in the case within 15 days.
The panel will look into the circumstances that led to the death of the girl, identified as Subhalaxmi Sahu, was found dead inside a room of a hotel on Cuttack-Puri road in Bhubaneswar.
Meanwhile, the police have intensified investigation in the case and obtained the Call Detail Record (CDR) of her telephone number. The CDR, comprising information about incoming and outgoing calls on the number for the last two months, will help in the investigators to identify the people with whom the girl had spoken before her death.
Police have also questioned around 15 people, including the girls’ two male friends – Sanjay and Anil – in connection with the death.
The postmortem report of the girl, who hailed from Bhadrak district, revealed that she had died of asphyxiation, while viscera report is awaited.
Sahu had checked into the hotel on Cuttack-Puri Road on August 4 afternoon. Next day, she was found hanging with a dupatta inside the room.
As per the autopsy report, she breathed her last due to asphyxiation around 24-36 hours before the conduct of the post-mortem. While the body bore ligature mark, there were no injury marks on other parts of the body, the report said.
While it is being suspected that she was administered intoxicants, the viscera report is expected to bring the truth to fore.
The girl’s family alleged that she was murdered and her body was hanged to pass it off as suicide. They had suspected involvement of some employees of the hotel in the incident.
