New Delhi: In welcome news for tax payers who are not comfortable filing income tax (IT) returns online, they can now file the returns from the nearest post office.
IT returns can be submitted at Common Services Centres (CSC) of nearest post offices.
“Now no need to travel far to file your income tax returns. You can easily access income tax return services at your nearest post office CSC counter,” India Post announced from its official Twitter handle on July 14.
The CSC counters, set up at post offices across the country, offer information and various government services like banking and insurance, apart from postal-related ones, to the people through a single point.
Taxpayers can also log in to the new income tax website https://www.incometax.gov.in./ to file their returns.
There were a few glitches in the website after it was launched on June 7, but Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman called a meeting on June 22 with officials of Infosys — which has developed the it – to rectify the problems.
