Bhubaneswar: In a significant operation against organised racket of printing/circulating fake Indian currency notes, the STF Odisha recently arrested arrested one person and seized good quality fake notes of Rs 41.16 lakh face value during a raid near Ulunda in Sonepur district.
The arrested has been identified as Deepak Meher of the locality.
An official release said that the seized FICN are in the denominations of Rs 500 and meet many security features of a genuine note. These will be sent to Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudrana Pvt Ltd in the neighbouring West Bengal for examination.
While a case under Sections 489-A/489-B/489-C/120(B) of the IPC has been registered and UAPA (Unlawful activities Prevention Act) sections will be added after getting official forensic report on the quality of the notes, it further said.
It is suspected that these notes were brought from Chhattisgarh. “There are more criminals involved in this racket. STF has got the vital clues and working on it to crack the entire scam and arrest all the perpetrators,” the release added.
Till date, the STF has seized FICN of face value more than Rs 1.19 crores, Earlier seizures, however, were of low quality.
