Bhubaneswar: Further intensifying its investigation into the Gopalpur gangrape incident, the Crime Branch of Odisha Police on Monday said it has laid its hand on significant digital evidence in connection with the case.
This was revealed by Director General of Crime Branch Vinaytosh Mishra, who said certain important evidence in connection with the gangrape incident have been collected as part of the probe.
Stating that the crime was also captured on some CCTVs installed in the area, he said that the Crime Branch team has collected the footage. The Investigators have collected the CCTV footage of the locality before as well as after the crime, the senior police officer said.
This apart, the police have also seized the mobile phones of the accused persons and sent them to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (SFSL) for necessary examination. The police may also take the accused persons on remand, if required, said Mishra.
Stressing that the police have collected substantial evidence in the case, he said the accused were very much present at the crime spot for at least one-and-a-half hours.
The SFSL has been asked to submit the DNA analysis report of the samples collected from the accused persons at the earliest.
Mishra said the investigation by the Crime Against Women and Children Wing (CAW&CW) of the Crime Branch is moving on the right direction and some circumstantial evidence have also been collected by the probe team.
It may be noted that the 20-year-old college student was gangraped by miscreants in front of her male friend on Gopalpur beach in Ganjam district on June 15. The incident took place when the woman and her male friend visited the beach during the Raja festival.
A total of ten persons, including four minors, have been arrested by the police in connection with the sensational gangrape.
