New Delhi: The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Monday announced a nationwide call for a protest march in the National Capital on September 5 after the Central government failed to honour its commitments made on July 25.

The march will begin at India Gate and proceed towards the Delhi Police Headquarters.

Families of deceased NEET victims and victims of police brutality will lead the protest march, CJP leaders said after a meeting of its national working committee to review progress made by the Centre and BJP and NDA-ruled states in fulfilling the assurances given to the youth of the country after a month-and-a-half agitation at Jantar Mantar was withdrawn.

A month having passed since those commitments were publicly made, the CJP expressed concern over the lack of concrete action and questioned whether the government intends to honour its word.

“Instead of implementing what was promised, the Union Government has delayed action, hidden behind technicalities and avoided giving clear commitments, even before the Supreme Court of India,” CJP claimed.

The continued delay, CJP asserted, has left the country’s youth with no option but to return to democratic and peaceful protest.

“Our patience cannot be mistaken for weakness. Our good faith cannot become an opportunity for the government to betray the young people of this country,” the national working committee stated.

“On 25th July, solemn promises were made publicly at a joint press conference. The young generation trusted those commitments. The nationwide movement was withdrawn in good faith. A government cannot take the trust of an entire generation, use it to send young people home, and then quietly retreat from its own word. We will not accept this betrayal,” the CJP said.

“The families who lost their children will walk at the front. Victims of police brutality will walk beside them. Behind them will walk a generation demanding only one thing from its Government: KEEP YOUR WORD.”

CJP appealed to all young Indians, students, youth organisations and student bodies to gather in large numbers at India Gate on September 5 and participate peacefully in the march.
