Cuttack: Nursing officers in Odisha’s public hospitals have threatened to cease-work from August 27 if the State government does not agree with their 10-point charter of demands.

The nursing officers have begun wearing black badges in support of this movement from Wednesday.

“We have repeatedly presented our demands to the government, but nothing has changed,” said Sarojini Jena, Secretary of the Odisha Nursing Employees Association, speaking to reporters at SCB Medical College & Hospital here.

“We have resorted to protest in favour of our demands starting today in response to the call given by our organisation.”

Jena threatened that nursing officers will stop work from August 27 if their demands were not fulfilled.

“As we do not want patient care services to be impacted, we will wear black badges from now until August 20. On August 21, we will go on a token strike that won’t disrupt patient care, and on August 23, we will have a sizable march in Bhubaneswar,” she said.

“And on August 27,” Jena emphasized, “we will go for cease work if the government is still indifferent.”
