New Delhi: For the first time, the Centre has released the names of five Indian Army personnel and one from the Indian Air Force (IAF) who were killed during Operation Sindoor.

The names of these soldiers will be inscribed at the National War Memorial in the national capital.

Those from the Army are Subedar Major Pawan Kumar, Rifleman Sunil Kumar, Lance Naik Dinesh Kumar, Agniveer Murali Naik, and Havildar Sunil Kumar Singh. The IAF personnel killed was Sergeant Surendra Kumar.
The names of these heroes of Operation Sindoor were released alongside the list of all soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice during various military operations in 2025, NDTV reported.

The ‘Tyag Chakra’ (Circle of Sacrifice) at the National War Memorial is dedicated to the nation’s bravehearts. It comprises 16 circular granite walls; the name, rank, and unit of every soldier who made the supreme sacrifice for the country after Independence are inscribed on the bricks of these walls.

Now, these six heroes from Operation Sindoor will also become a permanent part of this memorial.

India launched Operation Sindoor on May 7, 2025 in retaliation to the Pahalgam terror attack of April 22 in which 26 innocents were killed.

On May 7, India launched attacks on terror facilities in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Despite New Delhi informing Islamabad that it had not targeted any military or civilian installation, Pakistan launched missiles and drones against civilian and military targets in India. Most of these were intercepted by India’s air defence systems.

On May 10, India launched a major missile strike against several Pakistani air bases, crippling operations at several of them. Within hours, Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations called up his Indian counterpart and sought a ceasefire.

India agreed to cessation of operations provided Pakistan stopped all military strikes.
