Phulbani: Police on Monday arrested a youth for defying the COVID-19 guidelines of the Odisha government by organizing a wedding party in Kandhamal district.
He has been identified as Parameswar Bhukta of Nuapada village under Phiringia police limits.
The party was attended by 60 to 80 people. He was arrested hours before the wedding for violating the order of District Magistrate under Section 144 of CrPC, sources said.
To contain the spread of the COVID-19 and for effective social distancing, the state government had earlier asked people to postpone all social functions, meetings and celebrations till April 15. It had also appealed against mass congregation of people.
