Puri: A fast-track court in Odisha’s Puri has sentenced a man from Gujarat to one year of imprisonment for sexually harassing a 25-year-old woman inside Shree Jagannath Temple November last year.
The 69-year-old convict has also been slapped with a fine of Rs 5,000.
Additional District and Sessions Judge Ramanath Panda ruled that he will serve an extra 15 days in jail. The court also directed the state government to provide Rs 2 lakh as compensation to the survivor.
The incident took place on November 22, 2025, around 6 pm when the woman was at the temple premises with her mother, brother, and other family members. The convict acted in an obscene and inappropriate manner toward her.
Following her complaint, police promptly arrested the man.
The trial involved testimony from seven witnesses and review of material evidence, leading to the conviction and sentencing.
