Balasore: A young man was spotted carrying a pistol in a hospital at Soro in Odisha’s Balasore district on Thursday, triggering panic among people present in the site.
Sources said the incident took place at the Aahar Centre located inside complex of the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Soro.
The youth had been to the Aahar Centre to have food when security personnel present at the site noticed that he was carrying a firearm. Sensing potential danger, the security staff alerted the employees of the Aahar Kendra and attempted to seize the weapon from the youth.
After receiving information, a police team immediately rushed to the scene but the youth attempted to flee on seeing them, abandoning the gun at the spot. However, alert local residents chased and detained him before he could escape. The police later took him into custody.
As per locals, the youth has been staying in a rented accommodation at Badhei Sahi for the past few days. However, his identity is yet to be ascertained.
Police have seized the firearm and launched an investigation to ascertain as to how the youth procured the gun, and whether he has any criminal background.
