Guns, explosives seized from Maoist camp in Sambalpur

Sambalpur: Huge cache of explosives were seized from a Maoist camp inside Dangteka forest of Sambalpur district on Wednesday night following a joint operation by Rourkela and Sambalpur police.

The rebels, however, fled the spot under the cover of darkness during the exchange of fire with the police personnel.

“Two .303 rifles, 484 rounds of bullets, one hand grenade and two tiffin bombs were recovered from the spot,” informed Sambalpur SP Sanjeev Arora.

The raid was carried out on the basis of information received from two Maoists, who had surrendered before police.

Meanwhile, BSF ADG Arun Kumar said anti-Maoist operations will be intensified in the cut-off areas of Malkangiri and border areas of Odisha along Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. “More security forces will also be deployed in the cut-off areas of Malkangiri and Tulsi Dongri of Chhattisgarh,” he added.
