New Delhi: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed on Wednesday that Mohammed Sinwar, a top Hamas commander, has been eliminated.
Muhammed Sinwar was killed in an Israeli airstrike on Gaza on May 13, as was earlier claimed by Israel’s Defence Minister Israel Katz.
“Based on all indications, Mohammed Sinwar was killed in a strike carried out on the grounds of the European Hospital in Khan Younis,” Katz had said during a closed-door meeting with parliamentarians.
Now, Netanyahu has confirmed that news.
Israel Defence Forces (IDF) had targeted underground infrastructure in Khan Younis, which it said Hamas was using below the hospital, according to The Wall Street Journal.
According to Saudi channel Al-Hadath, Mohammed Sinwar’s body was recently recovered along with the remains of 10 of his aides.
Muhammad Sinwar was elevated to the leadership of the Palestinian militant group after his elder brother and Hamas leader in Gaza, Yahya Sinwar, was killed by Israeli military last October.
