Jagatsinghpur: The five years of courtship of acid attack survivor Pramodini Roul and Saroj Sahu culminated in marriage on Monday.
Pramodini and Saroj took the vows at Pramodini’s home in Jagatsinghpur district in the presence of family members and friends.
The bride glowing in red and smiling from ear to ear said “I am very happy. My friends, relatives and well wishers are coming and blessing me. My family members are also very happy today.”
“From the hell and suffering that I went through in 2009 and for several years after that, I had never imagined that I can walk again. Now, this life from today looks so different and beautiful. Me and Saroj could set an example for others,” she added.
Pramodini’s mother Kabita Roul said “I never thought that I can see the wedding of my daughter. I have felt her pain. Pramodini made me strong, though she was in pain. I thank Saroj and his parents for accepting my daughter.”
Pramodini and Saroj met in 2016 and got engaged on Valentine’s Day in 2018.
Blessing the couple, Namita Roul, Sarpanch of Kanakapur gram panchayat said “Pramodini has suffered a lot in her life since 2009. She deserves this happiness. I am thankful to Saroj.”
In 2009, an Army jawan Santosh Bedanta had poured acid on Pramodini after she refused his advances. She suffered 80% burns and lost her eyesight. She was then a Plus-II student at Adikabi Sarala Das College. Bedanta had harboured one-sided feelings for her and was later arrested in the case.
