Cuttack: Justice Harish Tandon on Wednesday took oath as the 35th Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court.
Odisha Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati administered him the oath of office at a ceremony held on the premises of the court in Cuttack city.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Revenue and Disaster Minister Suresh Pujari, Law Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan, Judges of the Orissa High Court, Bar Association members, and other dignitaries were present.
Ahead of the swearing-in ceremony, Justice Tandon had visited Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri town with his wife to seek blessings of the sibling deities, where he was presented with a sacred “Khandua” cloth.
Notably, the office of the Chief Justice of Orissa High Court has been vacant since the retirement of Justice Chakradhari Sharan Singh on January 19 this year after a tenure of 11 months. Justice Arindam Sinha has since been officiating as Acting Chief Justice.
On March 6, the Supreme Court collegium recommended appointment of Justice Tandon as Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. His appointment was cleared by the central government on March 21.
Justice Tandon graduated in law from Calcutta University in 1983. He enrolled as an advocate in 1989 and extensively practised in civil matters in Calcutta High Court before being elevated as judge in the same court on April 13, 2010.
