Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has acted on a Special Investigation Team (SIT) report and ordered the suspension of Hathras Superintendent of Police Vikrant Vir and two others in the gang rape case of a 19-year-old Dalit woman, who succumbed to her injuries in a Delhi hospital on September 29.
According to the initial report submitted by the SIT, senior police officials “mismanaged” the case. The report has also recommended lie-detector tests of everyone involved in the case, including family members of the deceased woman, The Indian Express reported.
The Dalit woman was allegedly gang-raped by four upper caste men on September 14 when she went out to collect fodder. She was taken to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, but did not survive.
Much to the surprise of the entire country, last rites of the woman were performed hurriedly at 3 am with family members not being informed.
On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh ADG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar claimed that no evidence of rape had been found in the forensic report.
The Chief Minister earlier in the day promised to hand exemplary punishment to those who harmed women.
