Unnao Rape Case: CBI Arrests BJP Lawmaker After HC Order

Lucknow: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the accused in the Unnao rape case, on Friday evening.

He was arrested following an Allahabad High Court order, asking the central investigating agency to immediately arrest the accused.

The court had targeted the Uttar Pradesh state government and said that the law and order were directly under the influence of the accused.

A bench of Chief Justice DB Bhosale and Justice Suneet Kumar directed the CBI to arrest ‘forthwith’ Sengar and the other accused named in the FIR.The CBI has also been asked to file status report by May 2.

Three separate cases were filed by the CBI in the rape case and Sengar was also detained for questioning.

The victim was allegedly raped and her father later died in police custody. The autopsy report showed injury marks on his body.
