Health Minister Opens Special Eye Care Centres In Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: Health minister Pratap Jena inaugurated two special eye
care centres ‘Sunetra’ in Urban Public Health Centres located at
Bramheswarpatna and Kalpana areas on the occasion of World Health Day
on Saturday.

Speaking on the occasion, the minister said, “These centres will
deliver better treatment and tests relating to eye-related diseases
with the use of modern equipment. Steps will also be taken to provide
medicines and spectacles free of cost to the eye patients in the near
future.”

“Target has been set to make Odisha a blindness-free state within the
next five years. The state government has planned to invest Rs 682
crore under the Universal Eye Health Programme aimed at providing
affordable and equitable eye care to people of all age groups”, Jena
added.

Besides, the government has also decided to introduce online
prescription system for patients at these centres so that their
records can be maintained in an effective manner, he added further.

Tourism and culture minister Ashok Chandra Panda and other government
officials were present on the occasion.
