Heat Wave Alert: Odisha Govt Extends Summer Vacation For Schools
Bhubaneswar: With the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing heat wave alert for eight districts of interior and coastal Odisha, the state government on Saturday extended the summer vacation for all government and private schools by three more days till June 21.
A notification to this effect was issued by the School and Mass Education department.
Talking to the media here, principal secretary, School and Mass Education, Pradipta Mohapatra said since there has been a sharp rise in the day temperature in most parts of the state, the government has decided to extend the summer vacation for all schools by three more days as a precautionary measure. Hence, schools will reopen on June 21 instead of June 18.
“As the IMD has issued heat wave alert for four interior districts of Angul, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi and Balangir and four coastal districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack and Khurda, for the next 72 hours, the government has decided to extend the vacation period,” he added.
It may be mentioned that the state government on March 9 had announced commencement summer vacation beginning May 4.
However, it later revised the notification on April 24, announcing the summer vacation from April 25 till June 18 due to intense heat wave conditions.
