Heavy Rain, Hail & Gusty Wind@60Kmph To Lash Odisha Today; Check IMD Warning

Bhubaneswar: Moderate thunderstorm activity with lightning, gusty surface winds, hail and heavy rainfall are likely in Odisha on March 19-20 under the influence of interaction of middle tropospheric westerly trough with lower level moisture laden winds from Bay of Bengal, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) informed on Tuesday.

The weather agency has issued orange warning for several districts of the state on these two days.

MARCH 19

Orange Warning

Thunderstorm with lightning, and gusty surface wind speed reaching 50-60 kmph and hail may occur at one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur districts.

Also hail is likely at one or two places in Nayagarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Balangir, Sonepur, and Boudh.

Thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm) may also occur at one or two places in Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, and Jajpur.

Yellow Warning

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph is likely at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Ganjam, Nuapada, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, and Sundargarh districts.

Thunderstorm with lightning may also occur at one or two places in the remaining districts of Odisha.

MARCH 20

Orange Warning

Thunderstorm with lightning, and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Gajapati, Ganjam, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri.

Heavy rainfall (7cm to 11cm) is also likely at one or two places in Khurda, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Nayagarh districts.

Yellow Warning

Thunderstorm with lightning may occur at one or two places in Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj districts.

While there is no further weather warning, light rain or thundershower may continue at one or two places in Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Jajpur on March 21. Dry weather will prevail across the state thereafter.
