Heavy Rain In Odisha To Continue For 3 Days: IMD

Bhubaneswar: While heavy rain lashed most parts of Odisha, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday predicted that there will be no change in the weather condition till next 72 hours.

The rainfall recorded in the last 24 hours till 8.30 am on Saturday was highest in Phulbani with 124.4 mm, followed by Sonepur (91.8), Boudh (85.3), Balasore (72.2), Bhubaneswar (64), Angul (64), Baripada (45), Nayagarh (44), Paradip (43), Chandbali (39), Cuttack (33.8), Talcher (30), Jharsuguda (24.6), Balangir (24.6), Keonjhar (21), Puri (19.2), Sambalpur (18.6), Hirakud (15.6) and Chhatrapur (10).

The capital city experienced intermittent heavy rainfall from last evening till 8 am on Saturday.

The IMD’s morning bulletin on Saturday said that a trough, running from a cyclonic circulation over north-east Vidarbha and neighbourhood to Comorin area across Telangana has become active. Under its influence, there will be heavy rainfall at one or two places over the coastal and interior districts in the next 24 hours and continue for subsequent 48 hours till April 28,” the IMD said in a morning bulletin.

In view of the heavy rainfall forecast, IMD has issued orange and yellow warnings for the following districts.

April 25
(Orange warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Dhenkanal and also hail storm/heavy rain at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagasingpur, Ganjam and Jajpur.

Yellow warning
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the remaining districts.

April 26
(Orange warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 40-50 kmph at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Sonepur, Angul, Boudh, Dhenkanal and Kandhamal and hail storm/heavy rain at one or two places over the districts of Ganjam, Puri, Jagatsingpur, Kendrapara, Gajapati, Deogarh and Angul.

Yellow warning
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the remaining districts.

April 27
(Orange warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph and heavy rain at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Koraput and Gajapati.

Yellow warning
Thunderstorm with lightning at one or two places over the remaining districts.

April 28
(Yellow warning)

Thunderstorm with lightning accompanied with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph at one or two places over the districts of coastal Odisha, Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Sundargarh and Dhenkanal.
