Bhubaneswar: With the well-marked low pressure over the north-west Bay of Bengal concentrating into a depression on Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall in the south and central districts and heavy rain in the west and coastal districts of Odisha in the next 24 hours.
In an afternoon release on Wednesday, the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar has said the depression, which lies over the coastal Odisha and neighbourhood about 30 km south-east of Bhubaneswar,is likely to move west-northwest during next 24 hours.
Under its influence, very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at a few places in Rayagada, Gajapati, Kandhamal and Balangir with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over Malkanagiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Nuapada districts.
Besides, heavy rainfall is very likely to occur at one or two places over Ganjam, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Baragarh, Sambalpur and Jharsuguda districts.
Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast and north-west adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal in the next 24 hours as the squally wind speed would reach 45-55 kmph with gusting up to 60 kmph, the release added.
