Bhubaneswar: The intensity of rainfall is likely to increase in Odisha as the low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal became well-marked on Wednesday.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the low-pressure area over northwest Bey of Bengal off Odisha coasts moved slowly west-north-westwards and became well-marked low-pressure in the same region in the morning.
The system is likely to move slowly west-north-westwards across Odisha in next 24 hours.
Under its influence, Odisha is set to encounter another prolonged spell of heavy rainfall. The weather agency has forecast intense rain across the state for the next five days.
While light to moderate rain is expected in most areas, the southern districts are likely to be hit harder, prompting the weather office to issue orange and yellow alerts.
Malkangiri district has been placed under an orange warning for the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Similarly, yellow warning has been issued for Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda and Puri districts where intense rain and thunderstorms and gusty winds may occur till Thursday morning. The rest of the state may also experience scattered rainfall and lightning.
While heavy is expected through Wednesday, rainfall activity could reduce to light or moderate intensity between August 30 and September 1.
