Heavy Rain Renders Several Areas Of Bhubaneswar Waterlogged, Paralyses Traffic
Bhubaneswar: Several parts of Bhubaneswar were rendered waterlogged after heavy rain on Monday.
Odisha capital experienced several spells of heavy rainfall accompanied by lightning and thunder from afternoon, throwing life out of gear. The downpour was so intense that the rainwater as found flowing at knee-high in several areas for a long time.
While the movement of vehicular traffic was thrown out of gear, people were found taking shelter wherever possible by parking their vehicles on the road. Traffic congestion due to breakdown of vehicles as water entered the engine was reported from some places.
The worst affected areas were Old Town, Nayapalli, Laxmisagar, Rasulgarh, Acharya Vihar and Satyanagar. In the low-lying places of these areas, the rainwater along with drain water entered the houses of ground floor.
Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that the intensity of rainfall in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack would increase in next two days. The rainfall would take place under the influence of the well-marked low pressure area over North Bay of Bengal, which is likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a Depression during next 12 hours, the IMD said.
