Bhubaneswar: Heavy rain accompanied by moderate to severe thunderstorm/lightning may lash Odisha’s Khurda district, including Bhubaneswar, on Sunday afternoon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange warning till 5.08 pm.
It further warned of moderate to severe thunderstorm/lightning along with little to moderate rain in Mayurbhanj till 4.56 pm.
Earlier, the IMD had forecast moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorm/lightning and wind speed reaching 40 kmph may occur at most places in Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur and Kendrapada till 3.41 pm.
These warnings have come amid formation of a low-pressure area over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal off North Andhra Pradesh & South Odisha coasts. It is likely to move west–northwestwards and concentrate into a depression during the next 24 hours and cross south Odisha-north Andhra Pradesh coasts around the forenoon of August 19, according to the weather agency.
