Heavy Rain Snaps Rourkela-Suakati Road Link In Odisha With Flood Water Submerging Bridges
Keonjhar: Heavy rain triggered by a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has created a flood-like situation in Odisha’s Keonjhar district with water level in rivers, rivulets, canals and nullahs continuing to rise menacingly.
While river Baitarani is flowing above the danger level at Anandpur, flood water of Singhpur Bainga Nullah inundated many places in Banshapal area in the district.
A major bridge over the nullah is now under five feet water, while Aurabrahmani canal is also overflowing. Some vehicles including a truck are stuck under flood water.
As flood water was flowing over some bridges, besides submerging vast areas, road communication between Suakati and Rourkela and has been disrupted.
Residents of several villages under 20 panchayats of the block are facing a tough situation as normal life has been thrown out of gear in Banshapal area.
A large number of vehicles are stuck on both sides of the road since this morning, worsening the plight of the stranded passengers. Hundreds of trucks carrying goods are seek parked sides of the road. Passenger lanes are also stopped.
