Bhubaneswar: Already battered by intense downpour in last few days, Odisha is likely to witness heavy to very heavy rain over the next five days under the influence of a low-pressure area, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Friday.
The low-pressure area now lies over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and north Odisha. The associated cyclonic circulation now extends up to 5.8 km above mean sea level tilting south-westwards with height. The system is likely to weaken gradually during next 24 hours, it said.
In a special weather bulletin, the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar issued an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain at one or two places over the districts of Bargad, Sonpur, Boudhagad, and Balangir in next 24 hours.
Similarly, a yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogad, Anugola, Kalahandi, Kandhamala, Nabarangpur, and Nuapada during the period.
On July 18-19, heavy rain is likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Sundaragada, Bargad, Balangir, and Nuapaa, where the weather agency has issued a yellow warning.
On July 19-20, yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Mayurbhanj and Kendujhar.
On July 20-21, heavy rain is likely to occur at some places in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Kendujhar, Jharsuguda and Sundaragada and the MeT centre has issued a yellow warning.
Sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough along and off Odisha coast and fishermen are advised not to venture into along and off Odisha coasts on Friday.
