Bhubaneswar: Battered by intense downpour triggered by a deep depression, several parts of Odisha are likely to encounter heavy to very heavy rain over the next two days, the India Meteorological Department said on Thursday.
After crossing Andhra Pradesh coast, the deep depression moved north-westwards and lay over north coastal Andhra Pradesh & adjoining south Odisha about 70 km west-northwest of Kalingapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), 80 km south-southeast of Rayagada (Odisha), 90 km east-southeast of Koraput (Odisha) and 170 km east-southeast of Jagdalpur (Chhattisgarh).
It is to move north-north-westwards and weaken gradually into a depression around evening of Thursday. Thereafter it is very likely to continue to move north-north-westwards and weaken gradually during subsequent 24 hours.
Under its influence, rainfall of varied intensity is likely to lash several parts of Odisha over the next two days. The IMD has issued red, orange and yellow warnings for different districts of Odisha during till the morning of September 27.
A red warning of heavy to extremely heavy rain has been issued for the districts of Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Koraput during the next 24 hours.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) may occur at some places over these districts during the period.
This apart, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been sounded over the districts of Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam. Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind (wind speed reaching up to 50-60 kmph) may occur at some places of Nuapada, Balangir, Kandhamala, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Heavy rain is likely to lash the districts of Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghapur, Kataka, Baragada, Debagada, Anugola, Dhenkanal, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Subarnapur, Boudh, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha, and Nayagada.
On September 25-26, an orange warning of heavy to very heavy rain has been issued Nuapada, while thunderstorm with with lightning and gusty surface wind is also likely to occur in the district.
A yellow warning of heavy rain has been sounded in the districts of Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind may occur in Sundaragada, Jharsuguda, Baragada, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
On September 26-27, a yellow warning of heavy rain has been issued in Baragada, and Nuapada districts.
According to the IMD, squally weather with wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph occasionally gusting to 65 kmph is likely to prevail along and off the Odisha coast till September 25, while sea condition is likely to be rough to very rough and occasionally high.
In view of the weather conditions, fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea along and off the Odisha coast till September 25.
