Bhubaneswar: The regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) here on Thursday forecast heavy rain for 25 district of Odisha with the depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining West Bengal and north coastal Odisha moving slightly westwards and intensifying into deep depression.
Under its influence, rain is likely to lash Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Balangir, Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Malkangiri, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Angul, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Maturbhanj, Nayagarh, Deogarh, Kalahandi and Sonepur till 6 pm, it said.
According to a Met bulletin, the latest doppler weather radar and images indicate that moderate thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and intense rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in theses districts.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at a few places with extremely heavy rain at one or two places in Kendrapara, Bhadrak Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur,Cuttack, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal, Deogarh, Sambalpur and Sonepur districts.
Similarly, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to occur at one or two places in Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Baragarh, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Kalahandi, Kandhamal and Boudh. Some places in the rest of Odisha are also likely to receive heavy rainfall.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea along and off Odisha coast during the next 24 hours.
