Bhubaneswar: With another low pressure area shaping up in the region, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday said Odisha is expected to receive more rains in the upcoming week under its influence.

Heavy to very heavy rain is likely to lash different parts of the state by the morning of July 26 amid the possibility of the formation of a fresh low pressure area around July 24. The IMD has issued yellow and orange warnings for different parts of the state till July 26 morning.

As per the weather agency, Odisha has already recorded around 21 per cent excess rainfall between June 1 and July 18. The intensity of the rain is likely to remain.

For the next 24 hours, a yellow warning of heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph has been issued for Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, and Kandhamal districts.

Similarly, thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Malkangiri during the period.

On July 20-21, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar.

Thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Sonepur, Boudh, Nuapada, Balangir.

On July 21-22, heavy rain and thunderstorm with lightning with gusty surface wind speed reaching 30-40 kmph may occur at one or two places over the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
